How to perform it

  1. 01 Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Hold a barbell or dumbbells in front of your thighs with an overhand grip.
  2. 02 Keep your shoulders relaxed and back straight. Engage your core to maintain stability.
  3. 03 Slightly bend your knees while keeping your hips pushed back. Lower the weights by hinging at the hips, not squatting.
  4. 04 Maintain a flat back as you lower the weights, keeping them close to your body. Lower until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings, typically around mid-shin level.
  5. 05 Pause briefly at the bottom of the movement.
  6. 06 Push through your heels and squeeze your glutes to lift the weights back up. Keep your back straight as you return to the starting position.
  7. 07 Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, maintaining control throughout the movement.
